BYD offers five variants of the electric SUV, with prices ranging from 189,800 to 249,800 yuan. That is the equivalent of around 24,400 to 32,000 euros. There are currently three drive variants: Two models have a 150 kW motor and a 71.8 kWh battery. Both have a range of up to 550 kilometres. Two other variants have a 230 kW motor and a battery with a capacity of 87.04 kWh on board. Both are capable of covering up to 662 kilometres on a single charge. Both drive options are rear-wheel drive.

The fifth variant has all-wheel drive. The front and rear motors generate a total of 380 kW and the battery has a capacity of 87.04 kWh, which, according to the manufacturer, enables a range of up to 602 kilometres. In addition, the all-wheel drive variant is said to be able to go from zero to 100 kph in 4.3 seconds.

The new BEV model Song L is based on the BYD 3.0 electric platform and is 4,840 mm long, 1,950 mm wide and 1,5060 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,930 mm. The electric vehicle is therefore only a few centimetres longer and only slightly lower than the Model Y from competitor Tesla. The batteries are BYD’s specially developed Blade Battery.

After BYD presented the Song L at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2022, the manufacturer opened the order books for the electric SUV in October of this year. Since then, BYD says it has received around 28,350 orders. The manufacturer has now reduced its prices significantly once again – by around 3,800 euros. This should further boost the number of orders.

The Song is part of BYD’s Dynasty series and is already the second vehicle based on the 3.0 electric platform. The first is the Denza N7, which has been rolling off the production line since June. This model is intended to attack the premium segment.

It is not yet known whether BYD will also export the new Song L to Europe.
