Free2move completes integration of Share Now

Share Now is no more: Stellantis has completed the integration of the car-sharing service into its mobility platform Free2move. This gives users access to over 10,000 car-sharing vehicles in Europe and the USA from a single source.

Share Now was formed in 2019 from the merger of BMW’s car-sharing service Drive Now and Daimler’s counterpart Car2Go. However, both partners soon lost interest in car-sharing or short-term car rentals. The two German carmakers sought a buyer for Share Now, which they found in 2022 in Stellantis and its subsidiary Free2move. The acquisition significantly expanded Free2move’s car-sharing capabilities. In addition to the seven existing cities, 14 European cities from Share Now were added at once.

After operating with a dual-brand strategy for the past two years, Free2move has now put an end to this approach: “Very proud to announce that we are launching our new mobility app, Free2move. This is the end of our Share Now brand. Goodbye Share Now! It was a great two-year journey. We are now fully Free2move. This is a pivotal moment in our strategic plan, reinforcing our ambition to become the largest mobility platform globally!” writes Free2move CEO Brigitte Courtehoux on LinkedIn.

The new app aims to simplify customer interaction and ensure that all offerings under the Free2move brand can be managed through a single customer touchpoint. Free2move’s services extend well beyond car-sharing: the app also provides access to rental cars and car subscriptions and assists in finding parking options.

The Free2move app, available for iOS and Android, provides users access to over 500,000 vehicles worldwide (the majority of which are rental cars), including more than 10,000 free-floating car-sharing vehicles in Europe and the USA. The vehicles can be rented by the minute, hour, or day.

Free2move aims to increase its offer of sustainable mobility options and is therefore introducing more electric vehicles into its fleet, including the 650 electric cars recently added, all of which are Fiat 500-e. In addition to Hamburg, Free2move customers already have access to electric vehicles in cities like Paris, Madrid, Amsterdam, Milan, and Stuttgart.
