Luca de Meo hands over leadership of Ampere

Since the spin-off in 2023, Renault CEO Luca de Meo has managed the electric car division Ampere in a dual role. That will be over in a few days: Josep Maria Recasens will become the new CEO of Ampere on 1 April 2025. There are also other new appointments in top management.

As de Meo’s successor as Ampere CEO is the current Chief Operations Officer, Josep Maria Recasens is of course very familiar with the processes and background of Ampere. Recasens moved from Seat to Renault in 2021 – de Meo was also a former Seat CEO, so he knows Recasens from his time in Spain. Recasens already held various positions during his time in France. In June 2021, he joined the Renault Group as Senior Vice President for Strategy and Business Development. “He accompanies the implementation of the Renaulution strategy and contributes in particular to the deployment of the company’s partnership strategy,” says Renault. At the beginning of 2023, he was appointed Chief Strategy Officer and member of the Renault Group Leadership Team, taking charge of the Iberian Peninsula countries. Following the creation of Ampere on 1 November 2023, Josep Maria Recasens also became Chief Operating Officer of Ampere.

“I am very pleased to hand over to Josep Maria as CEO, following on from his role as Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Ampere, to continue the deep and rapid transformation we have been driving with Ampere since its creation,” said Luca de Meo, who continues to lead Groupe Renault as CEO. “We have been working together since 2022 on this project, which has now become a reality, convinced that the Group, with Ampere, would make a real difference in the electric and software revolution. Ampere has already proven the strength of its model, delivering strong results in this major transition our industry is undergoing. I know that with Josep Maria at the helm, Ampere will continue and successfully accelerate its role as a spearhead for the Group and the European industry.”

Recasens also praised Ampere’s rapid transformation over the past 18 months. “For the past 18 months, we have been driving a fast-paced transformation with the Ampere teams, aiming to catch up with the best in the industry in record time,” said Recasens, adding: “I am excited to continue this journey as CEO and to showcase Ampere’s full potential alongside our teams. I warmly welcome Sandra and Marie to the Leadership Team—their roles will be crucial given the many projects ahead. With the launch of Twingo and the first SDV1 in 2026, the next C-segment EV lineup in 2028, and our efforts to reduce costs by 40%, we have a roadmap that matches our ambition: to become the benchmark for our industry in Europe.”

Recasens will work with a newly formed leadership team at Ampere. Marie Ollier will become Vice President of Human Resources of Ampere and a member of the Ampere Leadership Team, reporting to Recasens. Sandra Gomez, responsible for Product Planning and Cross Car Line EV & Software, will also be responsible for Ampere’s strategy and become a member of the Leadership Team. Vittorio d’Arienzo, already a member of the Ampere Leadership Team, is expanding his role to become Product Global Leader for all Ampere vehicles.

Electric cars such as the Renault 5, the Scenic E-Tech Electric and the upcoming Renault 4 models as well as the new edition of the Twingo will be marketed under the well-known Renault brand, but responsibility for these models – from development to production and sales – will be handled internally by Ampere. With the spin-off in November 2023, Renault wanted to establish the electric car business as a separate, flexible unit in terms of personnel, development, organisation, etc. – but with Renault as the sole shareholder. The planned IPO was cancelled for the time being at the beginning of last year, citing the market environment.
