912 EV chargers for the Philippines
According to the government, the focus for this installation of the chargers is on the National Capital Region, meaning in the capital Manila and the sixteen local government units that surround it.
To accelerate the expansion of the country’s EV charging network, the Department of Energy will ‘soon’ publish guidelines for charge point operators. According to the press release, ‘these will detail installation standards, particularly for fast chargers that rapidly deliver energy to EV batteries.’
“Our goal of deploying over 7,000 EV charging stations by 2028 is ambitious but achievable,” said Energy Utilization Management Bureau Director Patrick T. Aquino.
Officials will address setting up infrastructure at petrol stations and dedicated parking areas. “By combining infrastructure development with public engagement, we can accelerate the transition to EVs and build a cleaner, more sustainable transportation sector,” Aquino added.
Earlier this year, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said it would grant up to 100 million dollars to Ayala Corporation to help set up an EV ecosystem in the Philippines. The country also recently inaugurated its largest commercial EV charging hub called ‘Central Charge’ near Manila. It features 52 units of 7 kW AC chargers and four units of 60 kW DC fast chargers.
