Tesla removes Cybertruck’s range extender from its website
Tesla initially announced that the Range Extender would be available in early 2025, but postponed the launch to mid-2025 at the end of last year. Now Tesla has removed the option from its online configurator for the Cybertruck. Previously, the range extender option could be reserved for a deposit of $2,000.
Tesla’s range extender is not a small combustion engine that charges the battery as a generator, but an additional battery pack. According to the pictures published so far, it takes up about a third of the pickup’s loading area. For an additional $16,000, the range extender battery is supposed to give the Cybertruck Dual Motor a range of ‘445+ miles’ – without the additional battery, the dual-motor version is said to have a range of 325 miles.
That’s 523 kilometres without and 716 kilometres with the range extender battery. On paper, the option would thus increase the EV’s range by 120 miles or 193 kilometres.
Although the Cybertruck has been in production for almost a year and a half, Tesla has not yet launched the additional range extender battery. Without an official statement from the company, it is currently unclear whether the range extender battery is still coming at all or whether it is just a temporary reservation stop.
The carmaker also never published specific delivery figures for its electric pickup. The figures were only made public due to a recent recall, showing that Tesla has now delivered around 46,000 units.
