Ford UK offers free home chargers to EV buyers

The Puma has a particularly strong fanbase in the UK. And to make the new Puma Gen-E just as popular, the carmaker is luring new customers with a free home charger and free energy. However, the offer is valid for its other electric passenger vehicles as well.

Ford’s ‘Power Promise’ is trying to get drivers to switch to an electric vehicle. Every Ford EV buyer in the UK will thus receive a wall box charging station and an energy credit from Octopus Energy. Customers can thus charge up to 10,000 miles at home for free.

People who cannot install a wall box charging station, or do not want one, can instead opt for a £500 ‘cash alternative’. Either way, the offer also includes an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty for the battery and high-voltage components, as well as a free five-year service plan including EV towing.

Ford Power Promise customers also benefit from the ‘Intelligent Octopus Go’ smart energy tariff, with which drivers can charge their EVs for just 7p/kWh overnight. According to Ford, they could thus save up to 70 per cent compared to other offers.

“Switching into an electric vehicle for the first time can be a daunting prospect for some drivers, so Ford have decided to simplify and de- stress the entire ownership experience by launching a one-of-a-kind promise to new electric car buyers,” said Lisa Brankin, Chair and Managing Director, Ford UK. “This commitment from Ford aims to entice new buyers into the exciting world of electric vehicles and stimulate additional demand for our freshest-ever lineup of electric passenger cars.”

Ford recently kicked off production of the Puma Gen-E in Craiova, Romania, alongside the E-Tourneo Courier and E-Transit Courier. The Puma is fitted with a 43-kWh battery and offers 376 kilometres of range. In the UK, the EV currently starts at 32,795 pounds. Ford also offers the Capri, the Explorer and the E-Tourneo Custom as passenger vehicles in the UK.
