Smart unveils Brabus version of the #5

Less than three weeks after the European premiere of the Smart #5, the company now also unveiled a high-performance version of the electric SUV. As with the other models, it was developed in collaboration with Brabus. The vehicle can sprint from 0 to 100 kph in 3.8 seconds.

As already known, the Smart #5 with its 4.70-metre length embodies the final departure from Smart’s former focus on small cars. First presented in Australia in August 2024 and then initially launched in China, the Smart #5 is now set to conquer the European market. At the European premiere at the end of March, however, one important variant was still missing, namely the one in collaboration with car tuner Brabus from Bottrop, Germany.

But now the time has come: with the premiere of the Smart #5 Brabus, the now purely electric brand has presented its new top-of-the-line product. The model variant is characterised by its higher performance compared to the regular models and by its design.

With an output of 475 kW, the vehicle is very generously motorised and has all-wheel drive. In launch mode, the Smart #5 Brabus can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 3.8 seconds. For comparison: the most powerful variants of the #5 to date, namely the Pulse and Summit Edition, also come with all-wheel drive, but only 432 kW. They can go from 0 to 100 kph in 4.9 seconds. The entry-level variant, the Pro, takes 6.9 seconds with rear-wheel drive and 250 kW of power. To make tuning enthusiasts feel at home in the electric car, the car also offers simulated engine noises in the special Brabus mode.

The 800-volt platform of the Smart #5 Brabus enables fast charging with up to 400 kW. This allows the 100 kWh battery to charge from 10 to 80 per cent State of Charge (SoC) in just 18 minutes. The WLTP range is 540 kilometres. That is identical to the Pulse and Summer Edition equipment variants already mentioned.

In terms of design, the electric SUV sits on 21-inch wheels from Brabus. Red brake callipers and a sporty exterior concept are intended to emphasise the high-performance character. In the interior, front seats with ventilation and heating functions and heated rear seats guarantee a comfortable driving experience. The driver is provided with an Alcantara steering wheel with illuminated Brabus lettering. There are also sporty pedals, Brabus interior badges and ambient lighting with 256 customisable colours.

“The smart #5 Brabus is the new flagship of our still young all-electric product portfolio. This vehicle embodies our vision of electric performance and redefines what customers can expect from an electric SUV with powerful dynamics, top connectivity features and finest craftsmanship in the interior for an unmatched driving experience,” said Dirk Adelmann, CEO of Smart Europe.

“The world premiere of the smart #5 Brabus is yet another exciting milestone in our partnership with smart, showcasing what is possible when two brands with clear, unique identities and shared values bring together the best of what they have to offer to create something extraordinary”, added Constantin Buschmann, CEO of Brabus. “As the most powerful electric SUV ever in our joint lineup, it is all about pushing our design and engineering to the absolute maximum, delivering an electrifying ‘1-Second-Wow’ effect that truly stands out.”

The equipment includes an infotainment system with two 13-inch OLED screens for the driver and front passenger, as well as a Sennheiser Signature Sound System with 20 high-performance loudspeakers and a centrally extendable loudspeaker with a maximum output power of 1,190 watts.

In Germany, the Smart #5 Brabus will be available for 60,900 euros, which is 4,000 euros more than the regular top-of-the-range Summit Edition. The Smart #5 Brabus – like all other variants of the Smart #5 – can be ordered in Germany from 24 April 2025.
