Nio starts delivering the first Firefly EVs in China

Nio has started deliveries of the small electric car of its new Firefly brand in China. The Firefly will be available in 16 export markets this year, including Europe. And there is also a timetable for the right-hand drive versions.

According to Chinese media reports, Firefly has announced in its own app that the first deliveries have begun in several locations in China at the same time. Nio founder and CEO William Li took part in the handover ceremony in Guangzhou, while Firefly President Daniel Jin handed over some customer vehicles at a parallel event in Hangzhou. Like Nio, Firefly also uses its own app not only for remote control of some vehicle functions, but also to share news from the company or the experiences of some users with the community.

On 19 April, just a few days before the motor show in Shanghai, Nio officially launched the Firefly on the market – you can find all the details about the vehicle here. The first customers bought the model at prices starting at 119,800 yuan (around 14,500 euros at the current exchange rate) – including the battery. This is important for Nio, because the Firefly also supports the Nio-typical battery swap in addition to charging. However, this option will only be available in China from 1 August. With the ‘Battery as a Service’ offer, the vehicle price will fall, but there will be monthly charges for battery hire.

With the Firefly brand and the first model of the same name, Nio wants to reach new customer groups below the Nio (premium) and Onvo (volume models) brands.

t remains to be seen whether the concept will also work in Europe. The vehicle will be significantly more expensive here. In Norway, the base price is 279,900 kroner, which corresponds to around 23,500 euros. And in the Netherlands – with VAT roughly comparable to that in Germany – it will cost at least 29,900 euros. Nio intends to accept orders from Norway and the Netherlands from the third quarter of 2025, with CN EV Post now predicting a date between June and August. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in autumn. There is no timetable for Germany yet.

However, there are statements about the right-hand drive version, which is relevant for markets such as the UK and some countries in Southeast Asia. The Firefly RHD will be ready ‘by October this year’, Nio President Qin Lihong is quoted as saying.
