Bidirectional package from Compleo incoming
Compleo and Kostal are positioning themselves in Europe as a hub of expertise for bidirectional charging. The first complete system consists of an onboard charger in the vehicle and a matching wallbox, which should be available for the mass market in 2027.
The charging infrastructure specialist will be exhibiting with the charge point operator (CPO) ChargeOne and the software provider for managing charging stations, vaylens. The new bidirectional technical system incorporates KOSTAL’s expertise in the field of onboard chargers and Europe-wide certified solar power generation and intelligent energy use.
Bidirectional charging enables vehicles to feed energy back into grids (V2G). This technology enables drivers to charge when energy is abundant and to feed this energy back into the grid when demand is high. This presents cost advantages to drivers and capacity for stabilising grids and maximising renewable energy potential when it is most abundant.
Compleo and KOSTAL are therefore developing an overall bidirectional AC system for V2G support with the primary objectives of maximum compatibility, problem-free integration and open interfaces.
“While others are still talking about concepts and ideas, we are creating reality: a Europe-wide certified system consisting of an onboard charger from KOSTAL in combination with the AC bidi wallbox from Compleo, which combines communication, safety and efficiency. This benefits all players in the energy transition equally,” explains Dr. Björn Dietrich, CEO of Compleo Charging Solutions.
“If you take bidirectional charging seriously, you need a functioning overall system. We will be supplying the core of the charger inside and outside the vehicle, ready for series production from 2027. We are developing our system in line with existing and evolving standards and regulatory requirements. All components are certified accordingly and therefore offer maximum investment security. Requirements arising from new regulations in the future can be flexibly integrated via software updates. ” He explained the aim to create the conditions for a future-proof charging infrastructure that combines technological excellence with practical implementation.
“At Power2Drive, we want to enter into discussions with OEMs, charging infrastructure operators and e-mobility providers – to make bidirectional charging a practical reality and take the future of e-mobility to the next level,” he summarises, shortly before the conference in Munich, Germany.
At stand B6.110 at Power2Drive, Compleo will be showcasing the eTower 200 fast charging station in addition to the complete bidirectional system, which was revealed in November 2023. This is said to stand out from the competition with its “particularly quiet operation, high efficiency of 97.5 per cent and space-saving design”. The WireHub installation aid will also be on display, which is intended to “significantly” simplify the installation of the eTower 200.
