US public charging now easier for Hyundai drivers

Hyundai has just announced a pair of new charging features intended to greatly simplify the public charging experience for a wide range of newer Hyundai EVs. They've been added to the Bluelink app and can be used immediately.

The two new public charging offerings include the ‘in-app-charging’ feature as well as the ‘plug and charge’ feature. Quite simply, the in-app charging feature means users can now find and pay for charging using the MyHyundai with Bluelink app. This is combined with the ability to add a credit card to Hyundai Pay for seamless payments, as well as some dynamic EV trip planning features which sync up with the vehicle’s tablet infotainment screen. The charging networks this covers includes Tesla’s Superchargers, IONNA, ChargePoint, and EVgo.

As the name suggests, plug-and-charge lets Hyundai drivers pull up to participating public charging hubs (currently, Tesla Supercharger, IONNA and ChargePoint), plug in their car, and get billed automatically. They simply have to setup their vehicle’s plug and charge capability first using the MyHyundai app.

The new features are nothing special, and mirror offerings by other automakers in the US; but it will make life easier for Hyundai EV drivers who are sick of having to juggle apps or use a credit card when they roll up to a public charging network. The features will be compatible with the 2025 IONIQ 5 and the 2026 IONIQ 9, as well as future IONIQ and electric models.

Manish Mehrotra, VP of Hyundai North America’s digital business planning and connected operations, said in a statement: “With the introduction of plug and charge and in-app charging features, we are taking another significant leap forward enabling our drivers to use the MyHyundai with Bluelink app or plug and charge to recharge their EVs. These new features not only simplify the charging process but also enhance the overall ownership experience, reinforcing our commitment to making electric vehicle charging more accessible and user-friendly.”
