PowerGo launches Spain’s first dynamic charging tariff

EV drivers in Spain can now take advantage of dynamic charging pricing for the first time, thanks to the introduction of a new tariff system by PowerGo. It means lower prices for off-peak charging at more than 50 PowerGo charging locations across Spain.

PowerGo’s new dynamic tariff system links prices directly to the European electricity market (EPEX), which means prices will vary depending on supply and demand. It’s the first dynamic pricing system of its kind in Spain, and applies only to clients using the PowerGo Charge app. Drivers using a different app, charge card or payment method could face additional fees for transactions or the kWh tariff.

Users of the PowerGo app can expect lower prices at times of low demand or when there is a surplus of electricity generated, or higher prices when demand is high. With PowerGo utilising 100 per cent solar energy, this means that pricing could be largely weather-dependent, as the Dutch charging company doesn’t rely on coal and gas to supplement its use of renewables.

Oscar Cardoner Campi, Business Development Director of PowerGo Spain, said: “With dynamic prices, we encourage EV drivers to charge when more renewable energy is available on the grid. This makes charging both cheaper and greener. By linking our prices to market conditions, we make smart charging more attractive for EV drivers and promote efficient energy use. In doing so, we support the development of a sustainable and future-proof charging infrastructure.”

PowerGo currently operates a variety of charging locations across Spain, including 320kW DC chargers in Vic and a 120kW charger in Palma. The company is currently set to install 24 fast chargers at service stations around Madrid, and plans to build a total of 126 new charging points over the next few months.
