The single-deckers have been ordered from Yutong supplier Pelican Bus and Coach, and will be deployed on routes in the town of Loughborough, Leicestershire. The delivery is comprised of a mix of E9L midis and full-size E12s, all of which are expected to arrive from Q3 of this year. The purchase is being part-funded by Leicestershire County Council’s bid to the second round of the Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas (ZEBRA) fund.

It means that Kinchbus’ parent company, Wellglade Group, now has a total of 42 Yutong buses in its possession, including 12 diesel GT12 coaches under the Trentbarton subsidiary. Overall, it means Wellglade Group has invested over £13 million in Pelican Bus and Coach, which is an authorised reseller of Yutong vehicles in the UK.

Head of Yutong UK, Ian Downie, said that the electric buses have been matched to Kinchbus’ specifications, including double-glazing, cantilever seating, and other ‘passenger-centric’ features – although these have not been detailed.

Kinchbus Managing Director Tom Morgan commented: “This significant investment underscores our commitment to providing high-quality, sustainable public transport and that the new buses play a key part in the Kinchbus decarbonisation strategy. Our drivers and engineers are excited to work with these cutting-edge technologies, which will futureproof their skills and place them at the forefront of the green transport revolution.”

He added: “Together with our esteemed partners Camira and Altro, we are committed to creating an interior that not only sets a new benchmark for the industry but also thoughtfully addresses the diverse needs of all our customers, including those with disabilities and neurodivergent sensitivities.”
