The charge point operator Blink Charging UK has announced a new contract with North Herts Council. It will see the CPO deliver 18 new EV charging hubs in locations across the county.

The charge points will be installed at street-side close to residential areas, with the goal being to improve public charging access to those without private parking. There’s no word on exactly which charging posts the firm plans to install, but Blink does offer a number of AC chargers designed for overnight usage with both single and dual ports. Both the Series 7 and Series 8 charging towers have an output of up to either 19.2 kW or 16.64 kW per port. Blink also offers a 40kW Series 9 charging station and a 60kW-360kW DC charger for commercial use, but it’s unlikely that these will be used at street level.

Blink states that the initiative will increase the number of charging stations across the whole of Hertfordshire to just less than 1000 units. Alex Calnan, MD of Blink Charging UK, said: “This agreement with North Hertfordshire further expands our EV charging network in the region. It also solidifies Blink Charging UK’s position as a key player in sustainable transport infrastructure in North Hertfordshire while further reinforcing our overall commitment to supporting the UK’s transition to electric mobility.”

Ian Fullstone, Director for Place at North Hertfordshire Council, added: “We want to ensure residents are able to access EV chargers, so locations were chosen that are close to large numbers of homes that do not have off-street parking. By working with Blink Charging UK, we are helping to accelerate the roll-out of a modern and accessible charging network to help enable people to make the switch to EVs. This initiative is a key part of our sustainability efforts and will contribute to the district’s target of being net zero by 2040.”
