Antonio Filosa takes office as Stellantis CEO – new leadership team announced
Antonio Filosa, a native of Italy, turns 52 this week. His career began at Fiat, now part of the Stellantis Group. Since November 2023, he headed the American Stellantis brand Jeep and most recently served as CEO for North and South America. Throughout his 26-year career within the group, he has become well-acquainted with nearly all of its brands and has gained in-depth knowledge of the business both in Europe and the Americas. Following a lengthy selection process, Filosa was appointed as Carlos Tavares’ successor in May.
“It is my great privilege to take the lead of Stellantis, a global company with deep regional roots,” said the new Stellantis CEO. “We have unique strengths in our great people, our iconic brands and our millions of customers, whose loyalty to our Company, its fantastic products and its unique stories can only inspire us to new achievements.”
Major challenges ahead
Filosa steps into the role at a time when Stellantis is facing a raft of challenges. The group is grappling with falling production levels, particularly in its Italian factories. The company is also struggling with the transition to electric mobility, while its sprawling portfolio of 14 brands is becoming increasingly difficult to manage. This has recently fuelled speculation around a possible sale of the Italian marques Alfa Romeo and Maserati. In addition, like much of the automotive industry, Stellantis is feeling the strain of the new US tariffs introduced by Donald Trump and the associated supply chain disruptions.
Filosa has also announced his new executive leadership team. According to the company, it reflects the breadth and depth of talent within Stellantis. The new structure is intended to support more regionally informed product decisions by leveraging local market knowledge where Stellantis operates.
Here is the new leadership line-up
The new Stellantis Leadership Team (SLT) comprises 13 members, including the CEO:
- Antonio Filosa, CEO, retains his role as Head of North America and American Brands.
- Doug Ostermann, CFO, will also be responsible for Mergers & Acquisitions and Joint Ventures.
- Jean-Philippe Imparato remains Head of Enlarged Europe & European Brands, which now also includes Maserati.
- Emanuele Cappellano joins the SLT as Head of South America and also assumes leadership of Stellantis Pro One, the group’s commercial vehicle division.
- Philippe de Rovira becomes Head of the “Rest of World” while retaining oversight of Stellantis Financial Services.
- Davide Mele joins the SLT as Head of Product Planning.
- Ned Curic continues to lead Product Development & Technology.
- Sebastien Jacquet, appointed Head of Quality earlier this month, now also joins the SLT.
- Monica Genovese is named Head of Purchasing.
- Scott Thiele takes on the newly created role of Head of Supply Chain and joins the SLT. His responsibilities will consolidate functions previously housed in Planning and Manufacturing.
- Arnaud Deboeuf remains in charge of Manufacturing.
- Xavier Chéreau continues to lead Human Resources and Sustainability.
- Clara Ingen-Housz joins the SLT as Head of Corporate Affairs & Communications.
In addition to the SLT, an additional four senior leaders will report directly to the CEO:
- Ralph Gilles as Head of Design
- Olivier François as Head of Marketing
- Alison Jones, who now leads Parts & Services and Circular Economy
- Giorgio Fossati as General Counsel
Maxime Picat tipped for top job at Renault
No longer part of the leadership team are former Chief Purchasing Officer Maxime Picat and Béatrice Foucher, who served as Executive Vice President for Planning and Programmes. At 51, Picat is seen as a strong contender for the CEO role at rival carmaker Renault. That position is expected to become vacant soon as current Renault chief Luca de Meo moves on to become the new CEO of fashion group Kering, owner of Gucci. Foucher’s future remains uncertain; at 61, early retirement could be a possibility.
Antonio Filosa concluded: “As we move into this next chapter of our Stellantis history, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to Maxime Picat and to Béatrice Foucher for their notable contributions to Stellantis during their many years of dedicated service. We all wish them the best in their future endeavours.”
