Mercedes-Benz Trucks helps UK customers go electric
TruckCharge offers tailored advice on decarbonisation strategies, route and cost analysis, potential funding options, and the integration of digital charging management tools. Customers in the UK also gain access to practical solutions such as seamless payments using the Mercedes ServiceCard.
Daimler Truck set up its charging solutions subsidiary TruckCharge in June 2024. It bundles existing and future offerings related to EV infrastructure and electric truck charging, including consulting, hardware, and digital services. As part of the launch of the consultancy service in the UK, charging infrastructure provider Vital EV has been appointed as an official installation and support partner. The company offers a full range of services from design to maintenance, including 24/7 support and the integration of solar and battery storage solutions.
Charging stations are available in a range from 50 kW to 400 kW, suitable for overnight, fast or ultra-rapid charging, with finance options provided by Daimler Truck Financial Services. The latter announced in 2024 that it would not just finance electric trucks and buses but help get zero-emission vehicles on the road by “building an integrated ecosystem”. That includes, for example, offering charging solutions and infrastructure.
“As every depot and business is different, we’ve introduced the TruckCharge free consultancy service to demonstrate to customers how to overcome any perceived obstacles to running electric trucks. For example, we can help them decide the infrastructure required for their current and future eHGV truck requirements and give a clear analysis of the costs and benefits they should consider,” said Ibrahim Kraria, eConsultancy Manager, Daimler Truck UK.
The service is underpinned by a dedicated support system with guaranteed on-site attendance within agreed service levels, the manufacturer states. Over-the-air diagnostics, combined with Vital EV’s 24/7 maintenance network, aim to deliver high availability and reliability for operators of the eActros and future electric truck models.
“Anybody transitioning to electric trucks is bound to have lots of questions and operational issues to manage, so we developed our TruckCharge service to provide comprehensive solutions for them and our partnership with Vital EV provides the highest levels of support you’d expect from Mercedes-Benz Trucks,” Kraria concluded.
In March, Daimler Truck announced that it would make company-owned charging facilities available for public use via the TruckCharge brand. The offer is supposed to be an addition to the truck charging network set up by Milence. The latter is a joint venture founded in 2022 by the Volvo Group, Traton, and Daimler Truck. It wants to set up at least 1,700 high-performance charging points across Europe by 2027.
