Belgrade is preparing to deploy 100 new electric buses for Expo 2027

The Serbian capital Belgrade is planning to procure a total of 100 new electric buses for the three-month World Expo in two years' time. 50 of these are to use batteries and the other 50 supercapacitors for energy storage.

This was reported by the local news portal eKapija. The 100 units for the World Expo are to include 15 electrically powered double-articulated buses with a total length of 25 metres. Their commissioning is planned before 2027, as the Expo will take place in Belgrade from mid-May to mid-August 2027. Nine of the 25-metre vehicles will transport guests from the Serbian National Stadium station to the Expo 2027 site, while the other six will shuttle between Block 45 and the World Expo. The report does not specify the deployment scenarios for the other electric buses.

What is clear, however, is that all 100 electric buses will be manufactured by Higer, a Chinese bus specialist, according to the portal. In 2024, Higer Bus was the third-largest exporter of electrified buses from China after BYD and Yutong. After Expo 2027, the electric buses will be handed over to the public transport operator GSP Belgrade. Parallel to the bus procurement, Belgrade is currently expanding its charging infrastructure, for example, by installing opportunity chargers at the terminal stops.
