At the 12th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom electric sports boat not only beat its rivals but set a new speed record in the history of the event. The electric speedboat was designed to impress with both style and speed and competed in the Open Sea class.

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom speedboat not only left the competition behind in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge speed competition, but also set a new record in the history of the event. The speedboat was jointly developed by Porsche and the Austrian boat builder Frauscher, powered by the all-electric Porsche Macan Turbo.

The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge aims to promote emission-free drive technologies and test them under real conditions. In the Open Sea class, the Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom speedboat beat its rivals with an average speed of 49.84 knots (92.3 km/h) in the Speed category, where average speed is measured over two one-kilometre runs, providing a real-life scenario for efficiency and performance.

Porsche and Frauscher Shipyard tested their 850 Fantom Air electric sports boat powered by technology from E-Macan on the waters of Italy’s Lake Garda in October 2023. Following on from the open 850 Fantom Air day cruiser, Porsche and Frauscher launched the 850 Fantom as a classic runabout with a closed foredeck and cabin in December 2024.

“We are very proud that we were able to show the full potential of the Frauscher x Porsche as part of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge,” says Stefan Frauscher, Managing Director of Frauscher Bootswerft. “This success not only underlines the boat’s technical innovation, but also marks an important milestone in the development of electric propulsion solutions in the maritime sector. The combination of Porsche’s drive technology with the boatbuilding know-how of our boatyard has resulted in an electric boat that is incomparable.”

The 8.67-metre-long and 2.49-metre-wide Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom speedboat that competed in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge was painted in the Porsche colour Oakgreen Metallic Neo and with a closed foredeck. The speedboat is designed to impress on the water “with a level of electric performance that is typical of the sports car brand,” noted the German sports car maker. The drive system from the fully electric Porsche Macan Turbo has been extensively adapted for use on the water.

Manufactured at the Frauscher boatyard in Ohlsdorf, Upper Austria, Frauscher offers this fully electric watercraft with a choice between the Runabout and Air models, the former with the classic look of a closed foredeck, or a centre helm with a seating and lounging area at the bow. Porsche supplies the high-voltage battery and the drive system, which includes a control unit, as pre-assembled modules. Frauscher is responsible for final assembly, sales logistics and after-sales management.

Combined with the iconic hull shape of the Frauscher 858 Fantom, the record-breaking speedboat is equipped with 800-volt technology and up to 400 kW of power and a top speed of 90 kmph (49 knots). The boats’ range at slow speed is approximately 100 km, and at cruising speed, approximately 45 km, and is capable of DC charging up to 270 kW.

“We are very happy about the success at the event. It proves that Porsche E-Performance enables top performance not only on the road, but also on the water,” said Jörg Kerner, Vice President of the Product Line Macan, who played a key role in the development of the electric sports boat.
