Porsche takes a liking to electric luxury boats
Following on from the open 850 Fantom Air day cruiser, Porsche and Frauscher are now launching the 850 Fantom as a classic runabout with a closed foredeck and cabin. The new version also has the rear-axle motor of the Macan Turbo – in other words, the most powerful motor variant currently available in the electric Macan series. The electric drive system includes a high-voltage battery with a total capacity of 100 kWh, a permanently excited synchronous electric motor with an output limited to 400 kW and the corresponding power electronics.
For the 8.67-metre long and 2.49-metre wide electric boat based on the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air, the partners state a range of around 100 km at ‘slow speed’. At cruising speed (41 kph or 22 knots), the range is reduced to around 45 kilometres. Thanks to the 800-volt technology, however, the electric boat can be charged at DC fast charging stations with around 270 kW. An 11 kW AC charger is fitted on board as standard.
According to Porsche, the new 850 Fantom offers space for up to seven passengers. The model is set to celebrate its world premiere at ‘Boot Düsseldorf’ in January 2025. Initially, a First Edition limited to 25 units is planned. The sports boat will be built at the Frauscher boatyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria. Frauscher will also be responsible for all sales logistics and after-sales management.
