Easee & Fuse launch competitive UK smart charging tariff

The charging tech company Easee has partnered with Fuse Energy to create a new home EV charging tariff, claiming it is now the UK's cheapest. It costs 5p per kWh during specific hours and includes a fast-tracked hardware offer.

Firstly, the EV tariff: Fuse Energy’s new smart charging rate promises ‘100 miles for just £1.25’, although this of course depends on the vehicle in question. The company’s claims of it being the UK’s cheapest seem reasonable on the surface: one of the closest competitors for a smart charging tariff is the Octopus Energy GO tariff, which offers around 7p/kWh at off-peak hours (including every night between 11:30pm and 5:30am) compared to Fuse’s 5p/kWh.

The question of whether it is actually more economical depends on the calculation behind ‘off-peak hours’. While Octopus GO offers guaranteed off-peak hours at night as well as dynamically set hours depending on grid load, Fuse doesn’t define any guaranteed off-peak hours. It simply says it offers the lowest smart charging rate at the time of publishing according to Money Saving Expert comparisons. If it’s the case that the smart tariff is entirely dependent on grid load, then it could end up costing a little more than those tariffs offering guaranteed fixed rate hours if. As this information has not yet been provided, it’s hard to say whether this is the case at this point in time.

The partnership between Fuse Energy and Easee has resulted in something else: a new hardware offer for Fuse Energy customers. In essence, it means that customers can purchase an Easee One home EV charger for £899 including professional installation. This wall box is specifically designed to work with dynamic time-of-use energy tariffs and automatically optimises charging to when electricity is cheapest and cleanest.

Anthony Fernandez, CEO of Easee UK, said: “We’re proud to support Fuse Energy’s new tariff with our award-winning charger – built to
last, easy to install and simple to use. With over 870,000 Easee chargers already installed across Europe in residential and fleet applications, this partnership extends our commitment to making EV charging smart, seamless and scalable. Together, we’re empowering more drivers to access lower-cost charging whilst contributing to grid stability.”

Hi Geoff, I too own an Easee One home charger, in our case its all about looking for deals with our service provider to ensure you get a good deal on EV charge rates, its circa 7p kw/hr with a view the evse works with the grid and usually charges 11pm to early morning, in reality its smart charging so can cut in and out as it sees fit ........just remember to set things up so you tell it what time you want to leave home
