Ultimately, the firm aims to fully electrify its fleet. As well as the Silverado models, McKinstry also has Chevrolet Blazer, Equinox, Brightdrop 400 and 600 EVs in its fleet, which it uses in its work “designing, constructing, operating and maintaining high-performing buildings”. In practice, three-quarters of its fleet is being used by traders in the field, including plumbers, electricians, and sheet metal technicians. The vehicles have all been customised to fit the demands of specific trades: this includes the installation of heavy-duty toolboxes, bed slides, and onboard power systems for running tools.

Currently, McKinstry is using the EVs in its operations across US states including Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Texas, and is also installing charging facilities at many of its sites. The company states that it aims to grow its EV footprint ‘nationwide’.

Joseph Hagar, President and CFO for McKinstry, said: “McKinstry is putting EVs into action. Each EV advances innovation on our jobsites. These are more than trucks, SUVs and vans – they’re mobile workstations driving real impact.”

The vehicles have been introduced to the McKinstry fleet in partnership with GM Envolve; this is General Motors’ commercial fleet service which helps businesses integrate GM brand vehicles into their operations as well as provide software, logistics, and consultancy support.

Ian Hucker, VP for GM Envolve, commented: “The Chevrolet Silverado EV provides the performance and advanced technology our customers demand, while helping to enhance fleet efficiency. Delivering their 100th Silverado EV to McKinstry represents not only a milestone for their organization, but also a step forward for the entire industry as we collectively work toward a zero emissions future.”
