Audi Q3 hybrid has an electric range of up to 119 kilometres

Audi has presented the new Q3 shortly before the IAA. With the plug-in hybrid drive, it should be possible to drive up to 119 kilometres purely electrically. The market launch of the new Q3 generation begins in October and it is already available to order.

Like its predecessor, the third generation of the compact SUV from Ingolstadt will be available either as a classic SUV or as an SUV coupé with the Sportback suffix. Both body styles will also be available as plug-in hybrids from the launch, utilising the latest generation of drive systems from the VW Group.

This means that, as in the VW Passat and Tiguan models, the 1.5-litre petrol engine delivers 130 kW. The 85 kW electric motor brings the system output up to 200 kW and 400 Nm of system torque. Audi only offers the 200 kW version of the drive, while a 150 kW variant is also available for other models.

The drive is supported by a significantly improved battery. The high-voltage battery has a gross energy content of 25.7 kWh or 19.7 kWh net. This means that the energy content has almost doubled compared to its predecessor, but the dimensions of the battery should be “almost identical,” according to Audi. This is possible thanks to optimised cell chemistry and a better package.

The modern battery also increases the electric range of the plug-in hybrid: In the Q3 e-hybrid, up to 119 kilometres according to WLTP are possible, while Audi specifies 118 kilometres in the Q2 Sportback e-hybrid. Another advantage of the new battery is that it can be charged not only with alternating current (11 kW), but also with up to 50 kW DC. This means that a battery discharged to ten per cent can be recharged to 80 per cent in less than half an hour, according to Audi.

The price for the plug-in hybrid Audi Q3 SUV e-hybrid 200 kW starts at 49,300 euros. The Q3 Sportback e-hybrid 200 kW costs 51,150 euros. The first units are due to be handed over to customers in October 2025. “With the third generation of the Audi Q3, we are renewing an important model family as part of our product initiative and strengthening our range with a powerful plug-in hybrid and efficient combustion engines,” says Audi CEO Gernot Döllner. “The new model combines efficiency, driving dynamics, and comfort.”
