The Luxeed brand, founded by electronics group Huawei and car manufacturer Chery, is launching updated versions of the S7 electric sedan and the R7 electric SUV coupé on the market. These start in China at the equivalent of around 27,500 euros and 29,900 euros respectively.

As part of its Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), the Chinese electronics group Huawei has been forging alliances with various Chinese car manufacturers since 2023, and has just unveiled an SUV called the Shangjie H5 together with SAIC.

The Luxeed brand, which Huawei operates jointly with Chery, is now undergoing a model upgrade. Both the S7 electric saloon presented in 2023 and the R7 electric SUV coupé presented in 2024 will receive updates.

With the new model year, Huawei and Chery are entering ‘Phase 2.0’ of their cooperation at Luxeed, in which Luxeed plans to invest around 10 billion yuan (1.2 billion euros) and expand its research and development team to 5,000 employees. Through these measures, Luxeed intends to broaden its range of vehicles in the near future.

This new phase also means that even more Huawei technology will be integrated into the vehicles than before. For example, the updated R7 and S7 will be equipped with Huawei’s ADS 4 driving assistance system. In addition, both models are equipped with a 192-channel LiDAR, a rear-facing high-precision solid-state LiDAR and five 4D millimetre wave radars as standard.

The updated Luxeed S7 is still only available as a fully electric vehicle. It is based on the 800-volt Giant Whale high-voltage platform from Huawei and is available with two battery variants: with 82 kWh or 100 kWh capacity. Depending on the configuration, the CLTC range is up to 855 kilometres.

The S7 is equipped with a rear motor with an output of 210 kW. The S7 Ultra all-wheel drive variant also has a front motor with 150 kW. The all-wheel drive model can sprint from zero to 100 kph in 3.3 seconds, and the rear-wheel drive model in 5.4 seconds. Luxeed does not specify a top speed. The Luxeed S7 is 4.97 metres long, 1.96 metres wide and 1.47 metres high. The wheelbase is 2.95 metres. Huawei states on its website that the vehicle was developed in Germany.

The updated Luxeed R7 continues to offer two drive options: it is available both as a battery electric vehicle and with a range extender (EREV). The BEV variants offer a CLTC range of up to 736 kilometres, while the EREV variants offer a pure electric range of up to 360 kilometres after CLTC and a combined range of 1,673 kilometres. The battery and motor variants of the BEV versions of the R7 are identical to the S7. They naturally differ for the EREVs.

The Luxeed S7 starts at 229,800 yuan (approx. 27,500 euros), while the price list for the R7 starts at 249,800 yuan (approx. 29,900 euros). So far, the cars are only available in China; no plans for Europe are known.
