Dreame Technology considers building electric car factory in Brandenburg
At the beginning of September, the company announced in a press release that it had begun searching for a location for a vehicle factory in Brandenburg. It was only through reports in several German media outlets that this press release became widely known. It states: “Yu Hao, founder and CEO of Dreame Technology, travelled to Germany with a team to select a location for the new Dreame Cars factory. As a result, the brand is considering setting up a production plant in Brandenburg.” The vacuum cleaner manufacturer has apparently established a new division and named it Dreame Cars. In the press release, the company goes on to praise the region’s mature supply chain and predicts that it will be able to “reduce logistics costs while ensuring an efficient network throughout Europe.”
There has been no confirmation from the Brandenburg state government regarding the relocation plans. Dreame Technology is a Chinese vacuum cleaner manufacturer that officially announced at the end of August its intention to establish a second foothold in the eMobility business. The company’s first model is expected to be ready for market in 2027 and to compete with the legendary Bugatti Veyron. Dreame Cars has now assembled a team of almost 1,000 employees and is continuing to expand, according to the Chinese group. This workforce consists of “R&D personnel from Dreame’s intelligent hardware business with those from the automotive manufacturing sector.”
Dreame is considered a specialist in intelligent high-performance vacuum cleaners and robots and, according to its own statements, is well versed in high-performance motors, AI algorithms, and robot sensor technology and control systems. Dreame’s latest motor technology, with 200,000 rpm, is currently used in the Z50 vacuum cleaner and is also intended to serve as the basis for the planned luxury electric car. “The luxury automotive sector has been missing a truly intelligent electric hypercar brand,” the company said in a statement quoted by CarNewsChina in August. “While traditional ultra-luxury brands like Bugatti and Bentley have been slow to embrace electrification and intelligence, Dreame will redefine what constitutes ultra-luxury in the next automotive era.” The company has recently published initial visualisations, according to several media reports, the design is visually strikingly similar to the Bugatti Chiron sports car.
However, Dreame is not the first vacuum cleaner manufacturer with electric car ambitions. The Dyson Group also surprised the market in 2017 with an electric car project, but abandoned it in 2019. Xiaomi’s diversification has been more successful: the Chinese smartphone manufacturer also expanded into the e-mobility industry a few years ago and is selling its two models well.
