Construction kicks off for Gigafactory 4

The construction preparations for the planned European Gigafactory of Tesla in Brandenburg have begun. The clearing of a 91-hectare pine forest began on Thursday evening. Brandenburg’s Minister of Economics Jörg Steinbach announced the launch via Twitter.

There are updates on Tesla’s planned Gigafactory in Brandenburg: Tesla presented an environmental protection package in response to demands from nature conservationists. According to the package, Tesla wants to hang up about 400 nesting boxes and resettle several forest ant colonies.

Gigafactory 4: Tesla applies for state funding in Germany

Tesla has submitted the expected application for subsidies to the state of Brandenburg for the construction of the Gigafactory 4 near Berlin. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Peter Altmaier has now formulated “certain criteria” for a possible federal subsidy.

Tesla may face double trouble in Germany

In Germany, state government authorities in the Rheinland area are investigating possible violations of the Working Hours Act at the German Tesla subsidiary Tesla Grohmann Automation. Tesla under consideration for Gigafactory 4 subsidies

According to a local media report, Tesla has applied to the German government for subsidies for battery cell production and research in Germany. In return, Tesla could become part of one of the consortia that the Ministry of Economics wants to support.

Tesla distances from German battery production

Tesla does not plan to manufacture lithium-ion cells near Berlin in the first construction phase. This could be due to the tight schedule. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y has received certification from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in the USA.

An official announcement in the  Brandenburg gazette marks the formal beginning of the approval procedure for the planned Tesla plant in Germany. The public notice states that Tesla intends to start up the plant in Grünheide, near Berlin, in July 2021.

Tesla must yet again cope with the departure of a manager. Bert Bruggeman was only appointed Vice-President of Production at Fremont plant one year ago and has now thrown in the towel. Given his unexpected departure, a successor has not yet been announced.

European batteries: Opel, PSA & Saft build for 64 GWh

This week, the EU Commission gave the go-ahead for what is being called “the battery alliance” in seven European countries. Subsidies were approved for 32 GWh battery cell production with PSA and Saft at the Opel factory in Kaiserslautern, Germany and an identical plant in France, making a total production capacity of 64 GWh.
