Kempower and EO install 300 bus charging points
So far, the two firms have deployed 342 charging points, with 150 more already on the way. The charging points serve 11 bus depots across the UK – although they are mainly based in London and Scotland – and serve a number of bus companies including Metroline, Go Ahead, and Stagecoach. The partnership between the two companies began in 2022.
One recent example of how this collaboration works comes from Scotland, where the two companies worked on Kempower’s first commercial pantograph project in the Northern Hemisphere. The overhead pantograph solution here reportedly enables charging speeds of up to 500kW, enabling buses to be charged in ‘quick bursts’ with reduced downtime for the chargers. In terms of the responsibilities, Kempower supplied the technology and hardware while EO Charging delivered the installation. It’s not clear whether or not this is how responsibilities for all projects the two companies collaborate on are delegated, given that EO also manufactures its own hardware.
Philip Kershaw, Director of eBus at EO Charging, said: “Deploying more than 300 bus charging points in partnership with Kempower shows what’s possible when infrastructure expertise meets world-class charging technology.”
Rolle Nieminen, Kempower’s Head of Sales for the UK and Ireland, added: “The successful delivery of pantograph infrastructure in Scotland shows that the UK’s bus networks are ready for fast, automated charging built for reliability. By partnering with EO Charging, we’re helping operators scale up their electric fleets with confidence and ensuring public transport keeps moving as the e-mobility sector grows.”
