Circle K, which operates around 760 fuel and service stations across Sweden, has just opened the country's first charger with a 1000kW (1MW) capacity.

The MCS system is located at Circle K Värnamo, along the E4 180 K which is north of Helsingborg. It’s Circle K’s 31st truck charging station in Sweden and features an Alpitronic HYC1000, the first to be installed in the Nordic countries. The system has 3 charging bays at 600 kW and 1 charging bay with MCS providing up to 1MW of power. This charger in particular is becoming slowly more popular with a number of charging networks; earlier this month, Mercedes announced its own fast-charging network would be expanded to include the HYC1000 charger

Lennart Olsson, senior manager of pricing & eMobility heavy transportation at Circle K Sweden, confirmed that this is the first of three planned MCS stations set to open at Circle K locations, adding: “We’ve had an exceptional year – among other things, we opened our first dedicated charging station, Circle K Järna was named the third-best charging station in the world, and now we’re the first to launch the most powerful charger on the market”

Circle K was the first company in Scandinavia to open a heavy vehicle charger, namely in Gothenburg in 2022. Since then, it has built a larger HGV charging network from Malmö in the south to Kiruna in the north. The company now claims to offer Sweden’s largest network of ultra-fast chargers for both heavy and light vehicles.

Many of these are located at Circle K petrol and gas stations, which also offer conventional fuel types; however, in May, the company did open its first EV-only charging hub in Gothenburg through a partnership with Kempower.
