Electric trucks on the roll in Gothenburg port

Skaraslättens Transport now employs two electric trucks for container transport at the port of Gothenburg. A third electric truck is to be added soon. But this is only the beginning: in 2023, more electric trucks from a second freight forwarder are to follow – and in significantly higher numbers.

Xpeng moves forward again in Europe

Chinese electric car manufacturer Xpeng has announced plans to open four delivery and service centres in Europe. These are scheduled to open in the first half of 2023 after the company’s European plans were temporarily halted last year. The young company has also issued a hefty price cut in China.

Consortium to build truck charging network in Sweden

A consortium of three Nordic companies wants to implement a nationwide fast-charging network for electric trucks in Sweden. The aim is to provide infrastructure for some of the 85,000 heavy trucks currently using Swedish roads, that will need charging facilities if they are to convert to electric power.

Major rare earth deposits found in Sweden

The Swedish state-owned mining company LKAB says it has identified significant deposits of rare earth metals that are needed for electric cars and wind turbines, among other things. Mining on a larger scale will potentially first be possible in several years’ time.

Voyah completes first vehicle deliveries in Norway

The Dongfeng subsidiary Voyah has delivered its first electric cars in Europe. In December, the first 136 units of the electric SUV model Voyah Free were handed over to customers in Norway. Further markets are to follow in 2023 – Germany has not yet been named.

Nio counts 10 battery swapping stations in Europe

The Chinese electric car manufacturer Nio has now installed ten battery swapping stations in Europe, with seven more due to go into operation soon. The ten European battery-swapping stations are located in Norway, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands.

VDL Bus & Coach receives order from Sweden

VDL Bus & Coach has received the first order from Sweden for the new generation of its Citea electric bus. Public transport operator Nobina has ordered four new generation VDL Citea LE-122s with 490 kWh batteries. They are scheduled to enter service in the Swedish municipality of Ale in the summer of 2023.

Bird to withdraw from some markets due to supply issues

Bird says it has decided “to fully exit three European countries (Germany, Sweden, and Norway), and to wind down operations in several dozen additional” without specifying which. Bird adds that a lack of regulatory frameworks, resulted in an oversupply of vehicles, making it difficult to compete.
