First fully operational bus running on Smartroad Gotland

ElectrReon announced the launch of the first fully operational e-bus utilising the company’s wireless charging infrastructure in the city of Visby, Sweden. The Smartroad Gotland project started in 2020 and is one of four Electric Road demonstrators in Sweden.

Northvolt expands research facility in Västerås

The Swedish battery cell manufacturer Northvolt is investing 750 million US dollars in the expansion of its research centre Northvolt Labs in Västerås. The site will be expanded to include a campus with a new research and development centre, customer centre and offices.

Volta Trucks expands UK team

The Swedish electric truck start-up Volta Trucks wants to expand its research and development team in the UK to accelerate the development of the Volta Zero. The company is therefore launching a recruitment drive with the aim of employing more than 280 people by the end of 2021.

Volvo Cars to hit the stock market end of 2021

The Chinese car company Geely wants to list its Swedish passenger car subsidiary Volvo Cars on the Stockholm stock exchange before the end of this year. New shares are expected to raise gross proceeds of around 25 billion Swedish kronor (2.5 billion euros). Geely wants to remain the largest shareholder.

Nobina orders 122 electric buses from Volvo

Volvo Buses has received three orders from operator Nobina for a total of 122 electric buses for use in the Swedish cities of Gothenburg, Malmö and Hässleholm. The Volvo 7900 Electric and 7900 Electric Articulated are scheduled for delivery in 2022 and 2023.

Alstom debuts battery-electric train in Germany

A battery-electric train by Alstom has completed its maiden voyage on a rail route in Saxony, Germany. The prototype train developed together with TU Berlin started on a roundtrip in the city of Chemnitz. Electric trains of this type are scheduled to go into passenger service from December 2021.
