Transdev orders two H2 buses for Sweden from Solaris

Transport company Transdev has comissioned Solaris to build two hydrogen buses for operation in the Swedish city of Sandviken from autumn 2021. In its home market, Solaris has also delivered another electric school bus to Gręboszów.

Scania to build their very own battery plant

Volkswagen’s commercial vehicle brand Scania has announced that it will invest over one billion Swedish kroner (around 100 million euros) in the construction of a battery assembly plant next to its chassis assembly plant in Södertälje, Sweden.

Einride introduces next generation electric truck

The Swedish startup Einride has introduced the next generation of its autonomous electric truck T-Pod, making it commercially available worldwide for the first time. The company is relying on a subscription model for this. Initial customers include Lidl Sweden, Oatly, Bridgestone and Northvolt.

Scania and Fraunhofer electrify semi-trailers

Volkswagen subsidiary Scania made a solar cell clad trailer to power a plug-in hybrid truck and is preparing testing in Sweden. In Germany, Fraunhofer LBF was looking at semi-trucks as well and developed a lightweight high-voltage battery system for heavy-duty EVs.

Recall of 2,000 Polestar 2 electric cars confirmed

Following reports of problems with the all-electric Polestar 2 after deliveries started a few weeks ago, Polestar confirmed that they detected “a software error in the battery power control module, which, in very rare cases and without warning can lead to a loss of drive”.

At least ten electric Volvo Buses for Sweden

Volvo Buses is manufacturing at least ten electric buses for the Swedish city of Västerås. The operator there has commissioned the manufacturer to supply ten articulated Volvo e-buses. The contract also includes an option for seven additional electric buses.

Volvo Buses is providing the batteries from its electric buses with a second life as stationary storage on a large scale. Following individual pilot projects, Volvo Buses has now concluded an agreement with Batteryloop, that covers all batteries for the manufacturer’s electric buses worldwide.

Keolis extends electric fleet and contract term in Stockholm

Public transport operator Keolis has received a four-year extension of the existing contract for Stockholm from the Swedish transport authority Storstockholms Lokaltrafik. The contract has now been extended to August 2026 and the existing fleet is to be increased by 15 electric buses.

Sweden’s Voi Technology is on track to make an annual profit in 2021 after breaking even in June. It is the first big electric scooter sharing firm to do so, the company said this week. The announcement comes at a time in which the market has been hit hard.

Northvolt becomes 3rd battery cell supplier to BMW

The BMW Group has signed a long-term supply contract for battery cells with the Swedish company Northvolt. The deal is worth two billion euros. Northvolt will start manufacturing the cells in 2024 in its Gigafactory in Skellefteå, currently under construction.
