Nissan to gain Plug & Charge on the Electrify America network

Charge point operator Electrify America has once again expanded its Plug&Charge offering, this time through a partnership with Nissan. The 2026 Nissan LEAF will be the first of the company's EVs to gain Plug & Charge, with other to follow.

What Electrify America essentially offers is an advanced vehicle-to-grid communication method based on the ISO 15118 standard which enables drivers to plug in their EVs and pay automatically without the need for an additional payment method. Electrify America claims it became the first public EV charging network to offer Plug&Charge to multiple EV brands back in 2020, and now counts the likes of Audi, BMW, Ford, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Volkswagen among its partners.

Joining them now is Nissan. Electrify America states that Nissan’s upcoming EVs, starting with the new 2026 Nissan Leaf, will now be compatible with the Plug & Charge standard. All it takes is an initial setup process via the MyNISSAN app, after which point the vehicle will communicate directly with the charger for authentication and payment.

Robert Barrosa, president and CEO of Electrify America, said: “Increasing the adoption of Plug&Charge is a major goal in our mission to simplify EV ownership. We’re thrilled to welcome Nissan to our growing network of automakers embracing this technology. Together, we are delivering a charging experience that is not only seamless but built around the needs of the EV driver.”

It’s worth noting that Electrify America is not the only charge point operator offering Plug & Charge on the ISO 15118 – there are several others, including Hubject, Ionna, Allego and more. So it is not as if the new Leaf has suddenly gained exclusive capabilities – but it does mean a smoother experience for Nissan drivers using the Electrify America network.
