The agreement will specifically see Blink Charging UK deliver the first phase of the total £1.41m EV infrastructure project in the northern English county. The fifteen-year agreement will see it install public chargers of various speeds, ranging from overnight AC charging (3.7kW to 8kW) to fast (8kW to 49kW) and rapid (50kW – 149kW) charging, all placed close to homes without adequate off-street parking. This includes both on-street locations and off-street areas like car parks.

These will be placed across all five of West Yorkshire’s districts and involves agreements with councils in Bradford, Calderdale, Kirlees, Leeds and Wakefield plus the Combined Authority. The project is being part-subsidised by the UK government’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) fund.

Alex Calnan, Managing Director of Europe for Blink Charging, said: “It’s an honour to be working with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority on this significant and impactful project. This LEVI funding win also marks the latest in a series of key milestones in Blink’s UK expansion, reinforcing our commitment to supporting local authorities in their net-zero ambitions.”

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, added: “It’s fantastic to have Blink on board as we make it easier for people to switch to electric vehicles. These new charge points closer to home will bring huge benefits to people without off-street parking and contribute to improving air quality in our communities.”

It’s part of a wider plan in West Yorkshire to build a wide network of public charge points, which has also seen the region’s Combined Authority receive an additional £14.3m in capital to fund the second and third phases of its LEVI programme. Suppliers for these next phases are set to be appointed in 2026 and 2027.

If the price is more than 59p per KW then it's useless, cheaper to use diesel or petrol at that point, and we all know these will be 89p+ per KW

Blink installed their chargers opposite my home 18 months ago, so I decided to invest in an EV earlier this year. Four months later the chargers were destroyed by a speeding driver. That was in June. Despite repeated pleas to the local council and to Blink, they have yet to replace them. It's all very well rolling out new chargers - there simply must be an obligation on Blink to maintain them in a timely manner once they are installed. We now have no public charging facility in my town in Calderdale, and I have a vehicle I cannot charge locally.
