Rivian delivers around 13,000 vehicles in the third quarter

Electric car manufacturer Rivian reports a slight decline in production for the third quarter of 2025, accompanied by higher deliveries. The figures indicate a continued reduction in inventories. According to the manufacturer, the figures are in line with its own expectations.

Rivian has published its production and delivery figures for the third quarter of 2025. The electric car manufacturer built a total of 10,720 vehicles between the beginning of July and the end of September and delivered 13,201 units to customers. The figures are close to the manufacturer’s forecasts.

Rivian now expects to produce between 41,500 and 43,500 cars for the year as a whole. This further narrows the company’s expectations for 2025. When announcing its second-quarter figures, Rivian had set a target of 40,000 to 46,000 vehicles. The company plans to publish its financial results for the third quarter on 4 November.

The fact that Volkswagen’s cooperation partner delivered more vehicles than it built in the past three months could still be partly due to the production surplus in the first quarter. From the beginning of January to the end of March, Rivian manufactured 14,611 cars but only delivered 8,640. The U.S. American company had already delivered almost 5,000 more cars than it built in the second quarter, thereby reducing inventories on a large scale.

The R2 is expected to drive growth from 2026 onwards

In the same period last year, production figures were higher than delivery figures. From July to September 2024, Rivian manufactured 13,157 vehicles, but only 10,018 were delivered to customers. Founded in 2009, the carmaker currently has only two models in its passenger car range, both of which have been on the market for over three years and are built in Normal, Illinois. Apart from the body shape and a few minor details, the R1T pick-up and the R1S SUV are largely identical. On behalf of its main shareholder, Amazon, the company also manufactures the Rivian EDV electric delivery van, which Rivian developed specifically for the e-commerce giant but now also sells to other companies.

Next year, the Irvine, California-based carmaker expects a significant increase in production figures. In the first half of 2026, the more affordable mid-range SUV R2 is set to go into series production, with which Rivian hopes to make the leap across the Atlantic from 2027. With its European market launch, the American company also set its sights on the German, British and French markets. The compact R3 and R3X crossovers, with their retro design, are set to round off the model range at the lower end and make the brand much more appealing to the masses. Rivian is building a completely new plant in Georgia for the new series.
