Mars adds six eActros 600 trucks to its fleet in collaboration with Einride

Mars is expanding its truck fleet with six fully electric Mercedes eActros 600 trucks. In collaboration with Einride, the company will use the vehicles for deliveries between Germany and the Netherlands, with the aim of saving around 1,860 tonnes of CO₂ annually. By 2030, 300 electric trucks are to be on the road across Europe for the food and animal feed company.

Mars continues to expand its fleet of electric trucks. Together with Swedish company Einride, which offers electric, digital and autonomous technologies for freight transport, the food company is putting six new Mercedes eActros 600 trucks into service. The fully electric semi-trailer trucks are expected to save around 1,860 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents annually and cover more than 760,000 kilometres between several locations in Germany and the Netherlands.

After initial use on shorter routes, Mars is now increasingly relying on electric drive for long-distance transport. The new eActros 600s will connect the Mars factories in Viersen, Germany, and Veghel, the Netherlands, with the central warehouse in Minden, where the necessary infrastructure in the form of fast-charging stations has been created.

The partnership with Einride, which began in early 2024, has proven successful for both sides. Initially, two eActros 300 trucks commuted between the animal feed factory in Verden and the main warehouse in Minden, saving around 400 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents per year. Now, the area of operation is being significantly expanded to also supply retail customers and other Mars production sites with low emissions.

By the end of this year, 25 electric semi-trailer trucks will be in use for Mars in Europe, and this number is expected to rise to 300 by 2030. The company aims to reduce its CO₂ emissions in European logistics by around 20,000 tonnes per year. The group’s global goal is to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The Americans are using 2015 emissions as their starting point. Electrifying the truck fleet is a major step towards achieving this goal.

“Sustainability in logistics is crucial for a business that strives to make significant progress in the area of environmental friendliness. In addition to investment and infrastructure, this change requires innovative solutions and long-term commitment,” said Nicolas Storck, Mars’ head of logistics in German-speaking countries.
