Thailand: Spark EV to open 200 new charging stations by December
By the end of next year, the company aims to further grow its presence, offering 500 charging stations across Thailand. Its goal is to ensure EV users can find a charging station every 50 km across the country.
Spark EV is setting up charging stations with high capacities ranging from 180 kW to 600 kW, targeting electric cars, e-LCVs, and other high-power EVs. The company says these sites allow full charging in as little as ten minutes. Just earlier this month, it opened a new charging station with a total installed capacity of 600 kW in Nakhon Sawan Province, featuring six Huawei-sourced DC chargers that can each deliver up to 480 kW.
Commenting on the new announcement, Spark EV COO Voravee Plookcharoen said, “Spark EV is committed to driving high-quality, sustainable, and comprehensive charging across Thailand by developing a modern and reliable charging infrastructure that meets the needs of electric vehicle drivers in Thailand with fast, safe, and easy-to-use charging technology. We are committed to driving the growth of the electric vehicle industry and the sustainable development of green technology.”
The existing network of 100 Spark EV charging stations covers 45 of Thailand’s 77 provinces. The company has an agreement with Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited (BCP), one of the largest oil refiners in the country, to set up these sites at its fuel stations.
Spark EV commenced operations just a year ago, with financial backing primarily from Hong Kong-based companies. Gaw Capital owns a 59.3 per cent stake in the start-up, Cornerstone Technologies 35.6 per cent, and other investors the remaining 5.1 per cent.
