Geely debuts electric SUV EX5 in Italy
The Geely Group has long been active in Europe as the parent company of Volvo, Polestar and Lotus, as well as the joint brand Smart together with Mercedes. But it was only this summer that Geely also began expanding on the continent with its core brand: that was when the electric compact SUV Geely EX5 was launched in Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia and Montenegro, and also in Greece and the United Kingdom.
Italy now joins as another key European market. In collaboration with Jameel Motors, a Saudi Arabian company and distribution partner for Geely’s commercial vehicle subsidiary Farizon in the UK, Geely is entering Europe’s ‘boot.’ The Italian launch features two models that, according to Geely, ‘consolidate Geely Auto’s global vision.’ The Geely EX5, a battery-electric SUV with a range of up to 425 kilometres, which has been available since 2024 as the Galaxy E5 in China and is based on Geely’s Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA). Additionally, the Geely Starray EM-i, a plug-in hybrid SUV, offers approximately 90 kilometres of pure electric range and a total range of nearly 1,000 kilometres under WLTP standards.

The Geely EX5 is considered the brand’s first global model and is an electric SUV with dimensions comparable to those of the Škoda Elroq. It is also already sold in Brazil as part of a partnership with Renault. Recently, the EX2 electric compact car, the global version of the Chinese bestseller Yingyuan, also launched in Brazil and is expected to be available on five continents within the next 12 months.
