Vietnam: Public transport operator deploys 111 e-buses in Hanoi

Lien Ninh, a Vietnamese public transport operator, has now confirmed plans to convert its entire fleet of 111 buses in Hanoi to electric models this month. The move aligns with Hanoi’s long-term strategy to transition entirely to electric and green-energy-powered buses by 2030.

On Thursday, Lien Ninh started operating the first units of its planned 111 electric buses in the capital. The company will roll out the new zero-emission buses across all nine of its routes.

Lien Ninh is acquiring all 111 electric buses from homegrown EV maker VinFast. The company is taking delivery of three models: 13 units of the small-sized EB 6, 72 units of the medium-sized EB 8, and 26 units of the large-sized EB 10. To support smooth operations, it has also invested in installing 40 charging points at parking areas and terminals.

The EB 6 accommodates up to 29 passengers, including eleven seated, one in a wheelchair space and 17 standing, and can travel up to 340 kilometres on a single charge. The medium EB 8 offers up to 24 seats, a wheelchair space and room for 35 standing passengers. The 60-passenger model covers more than 290 kilometres on one charge. VinFast has not yet disclosed specifications for the EB 10.

According to the manufacturer, all three models feature a low-floor design to ensure easy boarding for passengers with reduced mobility, older passengers and children. Equipment includes Wi-Fi, automatic bus-stop notification systems, information screens, security cameras and advanced driver-assistance systems such as collision warning and lane monitoring.

Commenting on the launch, Lien Ninh Director Doan Van Phan said, “Switching to electric buses is a strategic decision of Lien Ninh in the journey to accompany Hanoi in building a clean and green public transport system. This is not only about upgrading the fleet, but also an opportunity to establish a new transport standard, cleaner, safer and more stable.”
