Changan to bring Avatr and Nevo to Europe by 2027
These statements were made by Klaus Zyciora, Vice President and Global Head of Design at Changan, in an interview with Reuters. To date, Changan has focused on introducing battery-electric passenger cars under its Deepal brand in Europe. However, at Changan’s European kick-off event in Mainz in spring 2025, electric models from its subsidiaries Avatr and Nevo (at the time still under the core Changan brand) were also on display.
In March, Changan announced a total of eight models for launch by 2027 during the Mainz event. The first two models are the Deepal S07 and the Deepal L07—a battery-electric mid-size SUV and a slightly smaller compact SUV, which will be available as both a BEV and a range-extender model. The remaining models, three each in 2026 and 2027, have not yet been specified by Changan. However, they are likely to include the larger Nevo E07 (also known as Qiyuan E07) and the premium electric models Avatr 11 and Avatr 12, as these series were highlighted by the manufacturer at the event as the European vanguard for their respective brands, Nevo and Avatr. A powertrain mix comprising BEV, PHEV, and EREV was also mentioned.
Klaus Zyciora confirmed the latter in his interview with Reuters. According to the executive, the company may also sell EREV, PHEV, and hybrid vehicles in Europe if sufficient demand exists. Additionally, the sale of light commercial vehicles is being considered. “We will test the water with consumers and see how competitive our offers can be,” Zyciora said. “But there will be a lot of products coming in the near future.” According to earlier statements, Changan is also exploring locations for a manufacturing plant in Europe.
In principle, Changan aims to target different audiences with its sub-brands. The Deepal brand is positioned to represent driving enjoyment and modern mobility, appealing to ‘young and young-at-heart’ customers. In contrast, the core Changan brand focuses more on families, while Avatr is intended to occupy a premium segment, priced above the other two sub-brands. The initial data presented by the Chinese manufacturer for the Nevo E07, Avatr 11, and Avatr 12 indicate a distinct technical ambition compared to the Deepal S07.
For instance, the Nevo E07 is set to feature an 800-volt architecture, offering a CLTC range of either 520 km or 650 km, depending on the battery, along with substantial DC fast-charging power. This is aside from its visually striking, elongated rear design, which resembles a closed pickup. The Avatr models are expected to be even more high-performance, boasting up to 425 kW of power and a range of up to 730 km under the Chinese test cycle.
