Australia: JET Charge completes nationwide EV charging rollout for IKEA

JET Charge has completed a nationwide charging infrastructure project for IKEA Australia, installing 59 chargers across seven sites. The network supports more than 100 electric delivery vehicles and forms part of IKEA’s strategy to transition to zero-emission deliveries across the country.

JET Charge has completed a large-scale electric delivery vehicle charging project for IKEA Australia, installing a total of 59 chargers across seven locations nationwide. The infrastructure supports IKEA’s transition towards zero-emission delivery operations and enables third-party logistics partners to deploy electric vehicles at scale across the retailer’s network.

The charging network has been implemented at sites in Tempe, Rhodes, Marsden Park, Sydney CDC, Canberra, Springvale and North Lakes, with further installations planned for Richmond and Logan. The project integrates smart load management to manage grid constraints and provide future-proof capacity.

A Chargefox billing system has also been deployed to allow third-party drivers to pay directly for charging sessions while reimbursing IKEA for electricity use.

The installation supports more than 100 delivery vehicles currently charging at IKEA locations to enable zero-emission deliveries. According to the company, 83 per cent of IKEA deliveries in Australia were completed by zero-emission vehicles as of October 2025.

“This project proves that zero-emission logistics isn’t just possible – it’s scalable. By building intelligent, fit-for-purpose infrastructure, we’ve given delivery partners the reliability they need on the road and IKEA the visibility to lead real emissions reductions across its supply chains. It’s a blueprint any retailer can follow,” said Tim Washington, JET Charge CEO and co-founder. “The financial investment in dedicated charging infrastructure will enable broader scale adoption of delivery vehicles by providing access for delivery drivers to recharge at sites owned by retailers and delivery companies.”

Alexandra Kelly, IKEA Zero Emission Delivery Project Lead for Australia and New Zealand, added: “Rolling out EV charging at scale is a critical step in achieving zero emission delivery. JET Charge’s infrastructure and implementation of the project, which spans the majority of our Australian delivery network, is already having a significant impact.

As early as 2019, IKEA Australia said it wanted to electrify its entire fleet by 2025. While it is not there quite yet, it is on its way. As reported earlier this year, in January, only 65 per cent of deliveries by IKEA Australia were electric. At the time, it partly blamed the infrastructure. That problem now also seems to be resolved.
