Hubject integrates Shell charging network into intercharge platform

Hubject has expanded its Intercharge roaming platform to include Shell Recharge, Shell's public charging network. This allows other e-mobility service providers connected to the platform to offer the oil company's charging points to their customers.

By integrating the Shell charging network into the Intercharge platform, Hubject aims to provide electric vehicle (EV) drivers and mobility service providers with seamless cross-border access. At the same time, the integration is intended to demonstrate how Europe’s largest interoperable charging network operates in practice, according to Hubject.

Intercharge is based on a dual-protocol architecture and supports both the Open Intercharge Protocol (OICP) and the Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI), offering partners flexibility in connecting to the network. This approach enables automated protocol bridging, ensuring seamless communication across different technical standards while maintaining user-friendliness.

Through this infrastructure, Shell’s charging network will now be accessible to customers of e-mobility service providers connected to the Intercharge platform, regardless of which protocol their systems use. The platform handles real-time authentication, session management, and cross-border billing, according to Hubject. Additionally, it is designed to eliminate the fragmentation that has previously hindered cross-network charging access.

Hubject explained: “This multi-protocol capability has created roaming functionality across Europe, mirroring the functionality of international mobile networks and ensuring seamless charging access, irrespective of the technical implementation or the operator managing the physical infrastructure.”

“We are delighted to deepen our collaboration with Shell Recharge and offer drivers an even more seamless charging experience,” said Christian Hahn, CEO of Hubject. “This integration underscores our commitment to making electric vehicle charging as accessible and smooth as possible for drivers and OEM partners across Europe.”

According to its own statements, Hubject operates the world’s largest cross-provider charging network, connecting over 1,000,000 charge points and more than 3,000 B2B partners in over 70 countries. With Shell now on board, the platform gains another major charging network operator.
