Dundee awards 20-year EV charging contract to Evolt

Dundee City Council has awarded a 20-year contract to Evolt Charging to operate and expand its EV charging network. The agreement includes more than 190 chargers and marks Scotland’s first full local authority migration away from ChargePlace Scotland.

According to the city council, the new contract covers rapid charging hubs, depot infrastructure and charge points located at the Greenmarket, Olympia and Gellatly Street multi-storey car parks. Evolt will also deliver a new rapid charging hub in the north of the city and expand depot infrastructure to support Dundee City Council’s fleet electrification strategy.

Dundee has already deployed several landmark charging sites in partnership with Evolt, including hubs at Lochee, Queen Street, Princes Street and Clepington Road. These locations integrate technologies such as photovoltaic generation, second-life battery storage and rainwater harvesting systems.

As part of the new agreement, Dundee has completed the migration of its entire public and fleet charging estate away from the ChargePlace Scotland network, becoming the first local authority in Scotland to do so.
Evolt confirmed that existing ChargePlace Scotland cards will continue to work while the national network remains live, providing continuity for drivers. Following the migration, both partners will progress further projects to enhance the resilience, reliability and coverage of Dundee’s EV charging infrastructure over the lifetime of the contract.

“This new agreement will help to ensure the continued growth and reliability of Dundee’s EV charging infrastructure. We have accomplished a great deal already, but we are not complacent,” said Councillor Siobhan Tolland, depute convener of City Growth and Infrastructure at Dundee City Council. “The council will continue work on actions set out in our Net Zero Transition Plan to become a more sustainable city and support the growth of quality green jobs.”

Justin Meyer, managing director at Evolt, added: “Dundee has long been recognised as one of the UK’s most forward-thinking cities in the transition to electric mobility, and our partnership reflects that leadership. Our relationship with Dundee City Council is built on trust, shared ambition and a long-term commitment to delivering a world-class charging experience for drivers.”
