New round of EV fleet funding opens in NSW
The scheme aims to support businesses in purchasing or leasing up to 15 battery EVs and installing related infrastructure. It helps to cover costs for everything from passenger vehicles to heavy commercial vehicles, although it doesn’t fund the entirety of each purchase.
The New South Wales government has outlined the incentives for this round, which include:
- $5000 for passenger vehicles and SUVs priced at $40,000 or higher
- $5000 to $8000 for light commercial vehicles between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes
- For the first time, $10,000 to $50,000 is available for heavy commercial vehicles between 3.5-23 tonnes
The scheme will also fund 50 per cent of costs incurred per charging port up to $60,000, depending on vehicle or charger type. Funding is first-come, first-serve and will be available until funds are exhausted or May 2026, whichever comes first. Previous rounds of the programme have awarded more than $46 million AUD, supporting the purchase of over 5300 BEVs and 2400 chargers. The NSW government has claimed this accounts for 5.2 per cent of all new EV registrations in the state.
Terry Niemeier, Director of Transport Electrification for the NSW government, said: “By extending these incentives to eligible heavy vehicles, the NSW Government is enabling businesses to make deep, impactful cuts to their transport emissions and accelerate the state’s drive toward net zero. By making the switch to electric vehicles more accessible and cost-effective, we’re not only improving air quality but also driving economic growth and innovation in the transportation sector.”
