Mercedes-Benz launches MB.Charge in India

Mercedes-Benz has rolled out MB.Charge in India, introducing a unified public charging service for its electric vehicles. The system provides access to more than 9,000 DC fast chargers nationwide and integrates charger location, authentication and payment in one interface.

The news was first reported by Indian outlet . It further states that MB.Charge has been under development for around 18 months. It allows drivers to locate chargers, start charging sessions and complete payments through a single system.

Customers can initiate charging either directly from the vehicle’s head unit or via the Mercedes-Benz smartphone app, with payment processed automatically after the charging session. The aim is to remove the need for multiple charging apps, separate registrations and advance payments, which have been common in India’s public charging landscape.

“Discoverability, connectivity, multiple apps, and fragmented payments were the four biggest pain points for EV customers in India, and we have solved all four with MB.Charge,” said Santosh Iyer, managing director and chief executive officer of Mercedes-Benz India, in comments reported by Autocar Professional.

“You discover the charger, you charge, and you pay – everything is seamless, very similar to the Tesla Supercharger experience,” Iyer said, adding that MB.Charge will be available free of cost to all existing Mercedes-Benz EV customers in India.

The launch comes as Mercedes-Benz continues to expand its electric vehicle presence in the Indian market, particularly at the upper end of its portfolio. Apparently, electric vehicles currently account for around 20 per cent of the company’s top-end sales in India, which has to do with a favourable tax policy.

While overall electric vehicle penetration in India’s passenger car market remains relatively low, it is picking up pace. As reported earlier this month, BEV sales were up 77 per cent compared to last year. And according to Mercedes-Benz, adoption in the luxury segment has been a driving force. Customers are increasingly evaluating electric vehicles based on total cost of ownership rather than range alone.

“Luxury EV customers are buying the car as a complete TCO proposition, and that is where the equation works today,” Iyer told Autocar.

The company started manufacturing the EQS SUV in India in 2024 and plans to introduce 12 new vehicles in India in 2026, spanning both electric and internal combustion powertrains. “We are not chasing volume for the sake of it. We are building the right ecosystem, and the right products for customers who see value in technology, luxury, and sustainability,” Iyer concluded.
