Irizar secures first e-bus order from the Netherlands
Irizar’s battery-electric buses will be deployed in the Oost-Brabant region, specifically in and around the cities of Tilburg and ’s-Hertogenbosch. There, they will primarily operate on a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line. Such high-speed bus routes often feature dedicated lanes in urban areas and, in some cases, traffic-light sensor systems to detect and prioritise buses at intersections.
Delivery of the Irizar buses is scheduled for December 2026. These will be the Spanish manufacturer’s first electric vehicles in the Netherlands. “We would like to thank Arriva for putting their trust in us. This order is very important for us. Because it means including a new country in our portfolio and continuing to broaden and expand our electromobility solutions,” comments José Antonio Sola, Global Sales Director at Irizar e-mobility.
“We are thrilled with these beautiful buses. They perfectly meet the needs for the busy, high-frequency city lines in Tilburg and ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Plenty of light, plenty of space, the ability to board quickly, and a distinctive, futuristic design,” says Jan Pieter Been, South Regional Director at Arriva Netherlands.
The vehicles will be equipped with batteries offering a total capacity of 615 kWh and will be charged via plug at the depot. The manufacturer states a range of up to 350 kilometres. As the name ie tram suggests, the design of the e-buses is styled to resemble a tram. Irizar generally offers this model in 10-, 12-, and 18-metre variants.
