Allego offers Dutch Uber drivers 50% discount
The discount is only available during off-peak hours, as Allego has stated. For the winter period, peak times are defined as between 10:00 and 17:00. This means Uber drivers can charge at a reduced rate at Allego’s Dutch fast-charging stations after 17:00 and before 10:00 the following day. According to Allego, this aligns with ‘typical charging habits before or after work.’ While the exact time windows may vary depending on the season, only the winter hours have been specified at launch.
Allego’s pricing varies by country and charging power. In the Netherlands, the rate at DC charging points is €0.793/kWh. At ‘ultra-fast charging points,’ an additional blocking fee of €0.25/min applies after 45 minutes. AC charging points are priced between €0.41 and €0.62/kWh.
The off-peak discounts aim not only to make operating electric vehicles more affordable for Uber drivers but also to reduce strain on the power grid during peak times by shifting charging sessions to off-peak hours. However, the chosen time window is surprising, as late afternoon and early evening are typically considered high-load periods for most power grids, when people return home from work.
For Allego, the deal also offers the advantage of potentially increasing the utilisation of its charging sites—50 per cent off is likely to be so attractive to many Uber drivers that they will specifically seek out Allego’s fast chargers and prefer them over those operated by other providers. While Uber drivers gain access to Allego’s 10,000+ AC charging points in the Netherlands via the Allego app (after linking their Uber account), the discounts are only available at DC chargers.
“This partnership makes smart charging tangible for taxi drivers: transparent pricing, no surcharges, and benefits aligned with daily driver behaviour,” said Emiel van Steensel, Head of Network Development at Allego Netherlands. “It helps drivers manage costs, reduces grid pressure when needed, and makes the charging network more efficient.”
Berenice van Gessel, General Manager Benelux at Uber, added: “Uber chooses Allego as a strong partner that significantly improves the charging experience for our drivers. With a large and reliable European network, this collaboration supports our goal to move passengers sustainably and affordably.”
