Plymouth appoints charge point operators for LEVI project
Connected Kerb and Believ are both large EV charge point operators in the UK, and both have a number of partnerships with local councils throughout the country. In Plymouth, they’ve been selected to deliver and operate the 750 new charging points, which are targeted towards areas without off-street parking. Construction is due to begin in Spring, with no further details on charging hardware or timelines yet provided.
However, Plymouth City Council has provided one useful tool: a ‘sample map’ of EV charging points in the city. This gives residents the opportunity to give feedback to the council about where new chargers would be most useful, thereby informing the planning process.
The appointment of the two CPOs comes on the back of £2.4 million worth of funding from the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) project, a national-level EV charging initiative. When this funding was first confirmed, electrive reported that: “the Council wants to install 600 pedestals and/or flush-fitting 7kW chargers, which would be capable of servicing 1,200 charging bays.” However, it’s unclear if this is still the plan or if that is what this new partnership will deliver.
Guy Bartlett, CEO of Believ, said: “We are proud to partner with Plymouth City Council on this significant rollout. At Believ, we are committed to delivering high-quality, reliable EV charging infrastructure at the heart of communities.”
Connected Kerb CEO Chris Pateman-Jones, added: “This project is about making EV charging fair and accessible for everyone. By working with Plymouth City Council, we’re ensuring residents without driveways can confidently make the switch to electric vehicles, helping the city lead the way in sustainable transport.”
