Osprey opens new Midlands ultra-rapid EV charging hub

One of the West of England's largest public fast charging hubs has just opened at Twyford Services near Evesham. Operated by Osprey Charging, it promises 16 new 'ultra-rapid' chargers.

Billed as ‘one of the region’s largest ultra-rapid EV charging hubs’, the new Twyford site features 16 Kempower chargers capable of delivering up to 300kW power – which Osprey claims can deliver ‘around 100 miles of range in 15-20 minutes depending on the vehicle’. Customers are able to pay for charging using Adyen payment terminals which can accept Chip & PIN, contactless cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and fleet cards.

Photographs of the site show two charging bays per charging tower, suggesting capacity for up to 32 EVs at a time, although this has not been confirmed. It’s positioned at Twyford Services by the A46 and A44 highways linking the Midlands, South West and Wales in what has been described as a fast charging ‘cold spot’ by National Highways. Osprey Charging has also highlighted the fact that the charging hub is built on land that it owns, rather than leases – which it says has enabled it to deliver a ‘larger, purpose-built’ facility.

“Reliable, high-power charging hubs on major UK roads are essential for the transition to electric vehicles,” said Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging. “Twyford Services is a flagship site for Osprey – a large, purpose-built hub in a location that needed better charging coverage. Because we own the land, we have been able to build a bigger, future-proofed site using our latest technology, giving drivers the confidence they need to travel long distances in an EV. This is exactly the kind of reliable, super-fast infrastructure the UK needs as electric vehicle adoption continues to grow.”

I assume this will cost more than petrol, the same as the rest of Osprey's network? Avoid except as a last resort. Tesla is normally half the price...
