Great Wall Motor (GWM) is withdrawing the Ora 03 electric hatchback from the UK market after four years on sale. The move forms part of a broader European strategy reset, with new electric and electrified models planned from mid-2026.

The Ora 03 initially entered the UK as a compact battery-electric vehicle called Funky Cat. It was positioned against models such as the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4 Electric and Renault Zoe. It was later renamed to align with GWM’s revised naming strategy and received updates, including additional battery options and trim levels, with prices ranging from £25,000 to £33,000. Despite these changes, sales remained limited. According to British media, only 542 units were registered in the UK last year. In the first quarter of 2026, registrations dropped to 26 units, prompting the decision to end sales.

The withdrawal comes as GWM reassesses its European operations. The company has indicated plans to expand its presence with a broader portfolio of electrified vehicles, including multiple new models scheduled for introduction from mid-2026. These are expected to focus primarily on SUVs under the Haval brand, alongside further electric offerings.

In addition, further brands within the GWM portfolio, including Wey and Tank, are under consideration for potential introduction in the UK, reflecting a broader restructuring of the company’s electric mobility offering in the region.

The original ORA range of concept cars were fabulous but GWM blew it. They should have made them better quality and a bit roomier with all kinds of fabulous colours. The problem is a lack of CULTURAL AWARENESS. They literally had a series of cars of various shapes and sizes that were straight out of THUNDERBIRDS. All they had to do was clear the Rights for the Gerry Anderson show and produce a series a FAB commercials. They had NO ONE with this cultural vision and insight.
