USA: Volvo adds Plug & Charge to EX90 and upcoming EX60
Once activated, drivers only need to connect the charging cable to the vehicle. The charging session starts automatically, while authentication and payment are handled in the background between the vehicle and the charging network.
According to Volvo Cars, the service is already available for the EX90 and will be offered on the EX60 from launch in the US market. The company says the functionality is supported across participating charging networks, including Tesla’s Supercharger network and the IONNA charging network. Additional charging providers are expected to join in the future.
Volvo states that EX90 and future EX60 drivers will have access to more than 35,000 compatible charging points across the United States. Drivers can locate participating charging stations through the vehicles’ built-in Google Automotive operating system or via the Volvo Cars app. Compatible charging stops can also be integrated automatically into route planning.
The EX90, Volvo’s flagship electric SUV, is already available in the US, while the EX60 electric SUV is scheduled to enter the market later this year.
“The EX60 and EX90 reflect Volvo Cars’ vision for the future of mobility – vehicles that combine safety, sustainability, and human-centric technology,” said Jim Nichols, Head of Product, Technology & Consumer Offer at Volvo Car Americas. “With the addition of Plug & Charge, Volvo drivers can enjoy an even more seamless ownership experience, making public charging as simple as plugging in and walking away.”
