Fiat UK opens electric Topolino order books
It’s only last week that Fiat hosted its micromobility strategy event in Rome, where the Stellantis-owned firm firmly placed the Topolino at the front and centre of its bid to consolidate its leading position in Europe’s light electric vehicle segment. There, Fiat outlined its future plans to broaden the Topolino range with several new design variants – and, latterly, expand use cases for its Tris platform, first unveiled last year.
Until then, though, the Topolino still dominates the brand’s micromobility approach, as evidenced by the UK launch of the popular two-seater this week. While the Topolino has been undergoing a phased launch across mainland Europe since 2023, it’s only now that it’s reached British shores.
It’s unsurprising, then, that the Topolino is fundamentally the same vehicle in the UK as it is in Europe; the only notable differences being left-hand drive and the presence of a Type 2 wall box adapter. Fiat UK states that each Topolino “…includes both the standard European plug and a Type 2 adaptor, allowing it to be charged at any UK public charging point that does not use a tethered cable”. As elsewhere, the Topolino is not compatible with fast charging.
Besides that, the Topolino is powered by a 6kW electric motor and a 5.5kWh battery, promising a diminutive top speed of 28mph and a max range of 46 miles (WLTP) – leaving no doubt that this is an EV for short journeys or urban use, rather than a roadtrip.
Kris Cholmondeley, managing director of FIAT UK, commented “Topolino is an important part of FIAT’s sustainable micromobility strategy, delivering simple, accessible urban mobility. It offers a practical solution for short journeys, leisure use and city environments, while fully embracing FIAT’s values of joy, simplicity and fun.” Fiat also confirmed that order books are now open for the Topolino at a ‘network of selected UK retailers’.
