Electric mini-plane takes flight in Norway
In Oslo an electric mini-plane made by Slowenian manufacturer Pipistrel took off for a short test flight with the Norwegian minister for transport Ketil Solvik-Olse. The Alpha Electro G2 aircraft was piloted by Dag Falk-Peterson, head of the state-owned company Avinor, which operates Norwegian airports.

Jetsuite to buy up to 100 hybrid planes from Zunum
The US startup Zunum, which is supported by Boeing, has found its first customer for the twelve-seated hybrid aircraft: The California-based charter company JetSuite will purchase up to 100 of the hybrid aircraft.

Bye Aerospace’s first electric plane takes off
Bye Aerospace, or better, Hi electric flying, as the start-up’s Sun Flyer 2 has successfully managed its maiden flight. The two-seater electric plane runs on Li-ion batteries by LG Chem and is said to be capable to stay airborne for up to 3.5 hours.

Volocopter shows air taxi stations for 10,000 people/day
German startup Volocopter presents infrastructure for its electric flying cab service in the making. It consists of so-called Volo-Ports leading to Volo-Hubs, designed to shuttle thousands of passengers through each day. Volocopter wants to launch the first within 10 years.

The Slovakian company AeroMobil has presented their concept for a flying car. The AeroMobil 5.0 VTOL is a purely electric four-seater, that can take off and land vertically. It is to be market ready in the next 7 to 10 years.

Kitty Hawk’s electric flying cab called Cora takes off
Backed by Google co-founder Larry Page, Kitty Hawk formerly known as Zee-Aero, has finally launched its electric, autonomous air taxi Cora. It is a VTOL with two seats and twelve electric motors and got the backing of New Zealand’s new prime minister.

Airbus Vahana undergoes first flight tests (Video)

Samad Aerospace introduces hybrid VTOL aircraft
A three-engine, hybrid-electric airplane was unveiled by the British aviation startup and will be called the Starling Jet. It will be able to take off and land vertically, and offers 10 seats. A flight range of up to 2,400 km is made possible by burning diesel once airborne.

Electric airplane startup Joby generates 100 million dollars
Joby Aviation is another new name in the electric aviation business and is coming in hot with an impressive 100 million dollars in funding and backers such as Intel, Toyota and JetBlue. Plans include an all-electric, five seated vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing presents the prototype of an unmanned VTOL model, capable of carrying a payload of up to 225 kilos. The aircraft’s dimensions are 4.57 x 5.49 x 1.22 metres, it weighs 339 kilos and features eight counter rotating blades.
