Production kicks off for the Cadillac Lyriq

Cadillac has started series production of its first electric model Lyriq in the USA at GM’s Spring Hill assembly plant in the state of Tennessee. Currently, however, the electric SUV can no longer be ordered, as new orders will not be accepted until 19 May.

GM invests $6.6 billion to boost production capacities

General Motors has announced investments of 6.6 billion US dollars – around 5.8 billion euros – in the expansion of production capacities for electric vehicles and battery cells in Michigan. An existing vehicle plant will be extensively modernised and converted to electric cars, and a third cell production facility will also be built in Michigan.

Cadillac launches pre-sales of the Lyriq in China

Cadillac has started pre-selling its first electric model in China. The Lyriq SUV will initially go on sale there with rear-wheel drive in the Long Range variant. Still, Tesla not put of the red as net loss stood at 121m dollars. Orders for both the Model S and X grew by 50 percent year-on-year. Also, the Model 3 is underway as planned. Limited production is to start in July before it is ramped up to 5,000 units per week in Q4 2017.

At least production of the stationary Powerwall has already kicked off. Starting 2018, the factory is said to churn out batteries with a total capacity of 50 GWh per year and 150 GWh form 2020. Panasonic says it will raise 3.9bn dollars through corporate bonds, most of which will be invested in the Gigafactory. The supplier had promised 1.6bn dollars but already said that it would invest more if needed.

U.S. Outlander debut delayed: The kick off for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV in North America has again been pushed back – for the sixth time. The plan is now for it to debut in summer of next year. The plug-in’s premier in Canada and the U.S. had originally been scheduled for January 2014. Mitsubishi did not give an explanation for the new delay.
