India: UP deploys 45 e-buses, 3 hydrogen buses for public transport
UP has deployed the electric and hydrogen buses to offer zero-emission connectivity from Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna City to the new Jewar International Airport. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said at the flag-off ceremony that the state planned to expand the fleet to 110 units by the time commercial operations at the airport began on 15 June, and later to 500 units.
The first 45 electric buses deployed on 12 June are all from Switch Mobility, and images and videos from the flag-off ceremony suggest that most of them are the EiV12 12-metre model. Switch Mobility manufactures the EiV12 in four configurations, and it has apparently supplied the intercity version, which offers 45 seats and features an air suspension at both ends.
The EiV12 intercity has a 235 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor, powered by a 423 kWh LFP battery pack that supports dual-gun fast charging. It has a top speed of 80 kph, and can travel over 300 kilometres on a single charge.
The 45 e-bus fleet also includes one unit of India’s first electric double-decker bus – the EiV22. It is a 10-metre model with 63 seats and features a weveller suspension at the front and an air suspension at the rear. It uses a 235 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor and an NMC battery pack that delivers a range of up to 250 kilometres.
As for the three hydrogen buses, a Times of India report says UPSRTC has sourced them from NTPC. The state-owned power utility has been procuring hydrogen buses from OEMs and supplying them for pilots to assess their real-world viability. The three units in UP are 42-seat coaches with a hydrogen storage capacity of 56 kg, which gives them a range of 750 kilometres.
